How to Clean my Hot Tub?
Maintaining and regular cleaning of your Hot tub helps protect it from breakdown and improve performance, avoiding issues such as blocked pipes, cloudy water, excessive foam and algae presence. To maintain a healthy hot tub or spa, water quality and cleanliness are key along with ensuring the unseen pipework and inner workings such as the jets are kept clean and debris free.
Here we quickly breakdown which product you need according to your issue and answer some common questions:
I have Poor filtration and dirty water, which products do I need?
This can be caused by a few factors, likely dirt, oils and debris located in your pipes and/or your filters are not capturing the dirt causing it to sit in the water. We recommend cleaning your filters with Jarder Hot Tub Filter Cleaner and cleaning your internal parts and pipes with Jarder Hot Tub System Flush. We would then fully drain the hot tub and add fresh clean water to the freshly treated filters and pipework, giving you a completely clean tub.
When I use Jarder System Flush, black bits appear in my water? Is this normal?
Yes, this is caused by the system flush physically flushing out the debris and dirt from your pipes, removing the blockages and grease. We would repeat the flush treatment again to ensure all the dirt has been removed, once it is clear, you can then drain the water and refill. This stops a needless refill if the blockages are still present.
What causes foam in my Hot Tub?
Foamy water is a common problem we encounter. Foam is caused by cosmetic products such as oils, shampoo, make up, deodorant all everyday products we use. These react in the water and cause foam at the surface of the water (which is why they are called surfactants) Ensuring a clean hot tub helps keep foam at bay and we recommend using our Jarder Anti Foam for Hot Tub solution weekly to eliminate the surface foam and keep it under control. It also helps to keep chlorine levels between 3 and 5mg/l (milligrams per Litre) and regular treatment with a System Flush product as well as keeping your filters clean and working optimally.
I have Algae in my Hot Tub/Swimming Pool, how do I remove it?
Algae, particularly in spring and summer will absolutely thrive if left unchecked, this can occur in hot tubs, swimming pools, ponds, any outdoor water source. If left untreated, it can not only look unsightly but can also cause breakdowns and blockages within your pipework/jets. Jarder Pool Algae Remover uses a concentrated formula to quickly eliminate any algae present, and we recommend treating weekly (a little goes a long way, so you get 500 uses per treatment with our 5L bottle) to keep Algae levels at bay. If the water has not been treated in a while and the algae problem is severe, feel free to increase the dosage initially until the algae is eliminated.
I have cloudy, murky water in my Hot Tub, how do I clear it?
The use of a spa clarifier product will remove the cloudiness in your water. The cloudiness is caused by tiny particles of oil, dirt, skin cells all the usual nasties that cause issues with your water quality, except that these are so tiny they cannot be picked up by your filter. Our formula targets these tiny particles and binds them together, allowing your filter to capture and remove them from your water, ensuring not only clear water but cleaner water too. This also aids with filtration and the performance of your hot tub overall. READ MORE >>
